Class of 1970 40th Reunion

40th Reunion for Class of 1970 to be held OCT 1-3 2010

Our 40th starts off with a golf outing for all on Friday morning. We hope to secure the Hampshire Greens Golf Course in the Colesville area of Silver Spring.

Friday evening, the Blazers football team will host a game at the new school’s location in Four Corners. Game time to be announced but probably in the area of 6:30pm. Hopefully we have an easy opponent!! After the game we will all walk diagonally across the street to the old Fred & Harry’s location, which is now the Fajita Coast Mexican restaurant and enjoy each other’s company in eat and drink.

On Saturday morning we are attempting to get the old Blair (OURS), opened up for a 3 hour slot so we can roam the halls once again. We are looking for volunteers to go up onto the roof of “C” building to paint… Class of 70!! (Just kidding, we almost lost Izzy the 1st time!!)

On to Saturday night… we will celebrate our 40th in style, at the renovated Silver Theatre. The Silver Theatre for those who might not remember is located on Colesville Road in downtown Silver Spring. A few years ago the Silver Theatre was spared of demolition and preserved to it’s ORIGINAL Art Deco interior. This venue was the idea of our own Mark Simon. The reunion committee met with the manager and after a walk -through, we all agreed THIS WAS THE PLACE.

We will be able to eat and drink in the foyer, dance in the theatre to the sounds of our DJ Craig Nalley and … watch a slide show with captions and musical accompaniment prepared by our Memory Book Committee! The Memory Book is being created by Ken Shifrin and his staff of volunteers, Hildy Mesnik, Lisa Rubenstein Fuller, Stan Bouma and Michael Thomas Howard. We MIGHT also have a special short movie on Silver Spring!

The concession stands will be our cash bars and the halls will be our catered hor d’oeuvres.

On SUNDAY, making plans for a Sunday Bruch somewhere. We are still working out those details.

We STRONGLY suggest that you make your reservations NOW. You can always cancel a week out, but to get this room rate you need to act FAST!! The Hilton sent us the following for YOU……..

Your room block here at the Hilton is ready for reservations, and the group code to reference when calling 1-800-HILTONS is M70.  Your guests can also book online via our website at www.washingtondcsilverspring.hilton.com by typing in the group code under Special Accounts – Group/Convention Code when making a reservation.  The last day to make reservations is August 31st.

FLYING INTO TOWN, HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT EASY!!!!

With having our reunion in downtown Silver Spring, you can FLY into Reagan National Airport, take your suitcase outside to the Metrorail and ride all the way into Silver Spring. Exit the Metro at the Silver Spring stop and either walk 3-4 blocks or grab a cab to the hotel. It just DOES NOT get easier than that. Don’t worry about needing a car. I’m sure you can hitch a ride from another classmate to all events.

POSSIBLE THURSDAY NIGHT EVENT

The only professional sports event going on at this time is a Baltimore Orioles home game against Detroit. As we get closer to the reunion, we’ll see how many people will be in town and are interested in attending a game. We would have loved to have done a Washington Nationals game in D.C., but they are out of town that weekend.
