Morgan Wootten

Class of 1950

Although he was an outstanding athlete at Blair, Wootten is best not for his playing but for his coaching. After attending Montgomery College and the University of Maryland, Wootten took over as the basketball coach at DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, MD. During his  41 year career at DeMatha, his teams won over 1,00 games and five National Championships. Dozens of his DeMatha players went on to play professional basketball, and when he retired he was recognized as he winningest coach in high school basketball history. In 2000, he became the first and only high school coach to be elected to the National Basketball Hall of Fame.
