Morgan Wootten (1950)

Morgan is another former three-sport star at Blair, lettering in football, baseball, and basketball. After Blair he attended Montgomery College (where he is in that school’s Hall of Fame) and the University of Maryland (Morgan is also in that school’s Hall of Fame). He went on to become a history teacher and basketball and football coach at DeMatha High School in Hyattsville. From 1956 to 2002 he became the winningest head coach in the history of basketball.  His record includes dozens of Washington, D.C. area championships and several National Championships.  During this period he also maintained his schedule as a classroom teacher. Among his proudest accomplishments is his record of having all of his seniors go on to institutions of higher learning. In October 2000, Morgan was elected and inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame, an honor rarely bestowed on a high school coach.
