Shaw led Blair through what is generally considered its “Golden Years,” a period of unprecedented growth and achievement. Blair became the county’s largest school, and excelled in every field of endeavor. Outstanding students (see Notable Graduates), award-winning faculty and administrators, state championship athletic teams, and professional-quality school theatrical productions highlighted Shaw’s tenure at Blair. His success at Blair led to his selection to open the new Walt Whitman High School, where the Darryl Shaw Memorial Auditorium is a testament to his leadership there.
